At Alitheia Capital, we back companies that bridge the gap to essential services, creating a more inclusive economy across the continent. Recently, one of our portfolio companies Seamfix launched ePass, a fully digital passport renewal platform developed in partnership with the Government of the Republic of Benin, expanding access to trusted identity services for Beninese citizens living abroad.
Launched globally in October and now accessible in over 80 countries, ePass enables eligible citizens to renew adult and minor passports entirely online. Users submit documents, capture biometric data using personal devices with built-in liveness checks, make payments, and track applications in real time. Government authorities produce approved passports and deliver them via courier or embassy pickup, eliminating the need for in-person embassy visits.
Seamfix delivered the solution through close collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Direction de l’Émigration et de l’Immigration (DEI Benin), integrating the application with national identity and immigration systems. The platform runs on GovSmart, Seamfix’s government digital identity and service delivery infrastructure, which enables secure verification, strong data protection, and scalable public service delivery.
Alitheia Capital invested in Seamfix in 2024, participating in a $4.5 million private equity round through Alitheia IDF Fund (also called AIF) which is Africa’s largest gender-lens fund designed specifically to drive inclusive and sustainable development by investing in high-growth, women-led and women-impact businesses led by gender diverse teams that deliver inclusive innovation across Africa.
We invested through a gender-lens and digital transformation lens because we know that access to technology determines access to opportunity. Digital public infrastructure like ePass reduces structural barriers that disproportionately affect women, including time poverty, mobility constraints, caregiving responsibilities, and limited access to physical government offices. By digitising identity and immigration services, Seamfix enables women, families, and underserved populations in the diaspora to access essential services securely and efficiently. This deployment reflects our belief that digital transformation is not gender-neutral by default but must be intentionally designed and financed to drive equity, inclusion, and systemic change.
Our investment supported Seamfix’s expansion of digital identity solutions that is currently strengthening public institutions and improving access to essential services at scale
This deployment also demonstrates Seamfix’s ability to deliver government-grade digital infrastructure, operate across borders, and serve diaspora populations efficiently. It also reinforces our conviction that African technology companies can build secure, globally relevant solutions for governments and citizens alike.
At Alitheia Capital, we remain proud to support Seamfix as it scales digital identity infrastructure that expands access, and delivers long-term societal and economic value.
